Complexus Tempestas / Embracing the storm
In his most recent piece, Complexus Tempestas / Embracing the storm, pattern and sculpture are fractured and restored, creating tensions between the planned and unexpected, between the stable and the unstable. This piece is made using an intricate and time-consuming Italian technique called scagliola. The scagliola process creates detailed marble panels, reflecting history and craftsmanship. The panels are subjected to chaos through a process of shattering and destruction, symbolic of lifes unpredictable and ever changing storm. The remnants, reassembled by the artist, create a form that reflects the relationship between the ourselves and this storm. The work represents our own fragility and chaotic existence.
